Sortac Systems is a full service, MINORITY-OWNED consulting firm started in 1995 to provide design engineering services to the Washington D.C. metropolitan area transit authority.  The founder and CEO was one of the original design engineers for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) and has spent over 45 years working in the industry.  Since our inception, we have also added staff augmentation, inspection, construction management, and project management services to our capabilities. Our main office is located in Fairfax Station, VA.

TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE
  • Senior leadership with over 45 years association in WMATA – 5 years as Chief Electrical Engineer; 30 years as Systems Manager and 10 years as DBE consulting firm.
  • Managed electrical, mechanical, Corrosion, ATC, Communication and cost estimating departments of WMATA GEC (Parsons Transportation Group) for more than 30 years.
  • Well-versed and hands-on engineer with all aspects of WMATA System Engineering. Active problem solver. Member of WMATA team for quick action team of critical problems and proposed change orders (PCO).
  • Introduced many innovations and techniques to established practices in WMATA to bring about cost efficiency, reliability and safety.
  • Principal engineer in restoration of power and rail service to Port Authority in NY following the 9/11 terrorist attack on World Trade Center. In charge of Electrical designs, installation and start up PATH WTC station and service to NJ in record time.
  • Designed power distribution for a new center track (KE) with the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) in San Francisco.
  • Traction power simulation studies for Worldwide transits, including, BARTD, PATH, LIRR, CTA, Denver etc.
  • Power audit studies for DOT in NY & LIRR.
  • Helped develop TRACPAK software program for simulating traction power systems – an industry wide recognized tool.
  • Performing protective relay coordination study and settings in WMATA traction power stations for safety and reliability as well as arc-flash studies and determination of personal protection equipment in compliance with national and local codes.
